Our team members heard from Tycen Thacker, a 2024 Montgomery CEO alum and owner of three service-based businesses.

Tycen started his first business during his junior year of high school, taking the cemetery work his family began and growing it into a service that now partners with funeral homes across more than 40 cemeteries. After graduation, he launched Thacker Land Services for commercial and residential jobs, and he recently bought a controlling interest in TS Pest Control while also investing in and managing real estate.

Tycen gave the team practical advice for anyone starting a service business, including pricing jobs by the project instead of by the hour and always bidding a little higher than you expect the work to cost. He also spoke about building a small, flexible team, being willing to take risks, and why growing your network is one of the most valuable things you can do.
