Jeff Eisentraut, owner of the Orpheum Theater in Hillsboro, spoke at the Friday Speaker series.

Jeff explained his love of the movies and a life of working in theaters. At 15, when the projector operator went on strike, he started running the projectors which gave him his first role as a manager.

By 22 he was running a theater company’s flagship theater in Des Moines IA. But when a casino opened up nearby the theater business took a downturn and Jeff turned to other forms of work to support his family.

His passion for the movie business never wavered. Eventually he purchased the Orpheum and now owns several other theaters in surrounding communities. Back in the business, Jeff celebrates the unique experience he offers his customers with value-added popcorn and soda, great customer service with engaging employees, and the regular transformation of the theater’s entrance for blockbuster movies.

“That’s why I love programs like this,” he explained. “You can go to college and get an accountant job or [some other job] but what if you hate it. With this program at least you [learn that you] have the option to go out and do what you love to do.”
